THE man behind the double murder at Luvisi Primary School in Nquthu was sentenced in Pietermaritzburg High Court yesterday.
Sibongiseni Mdakane pleaded guilty and received a life sentence for killing Deputy Principal and Speaker of the Nquthu Municipality, Cllr Vusi Ntombela (47).
He was handed an additional 18 years for the murder of 14-year-old pupil, Elizabeth Nhleko and eight years for the attempted murder of a second pupil who was shot and wounded.
Mdakane has also received five and three years for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition respectively.
The court heard that Mdakane was allegedly promised R15 000 by Nquthu Mayor’s bodyguard, Mbhekiseni Khambule to kill Ntombela.
Khambule will appear in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court on 14 July for a bail application.
