Rotary gives ‘grand’ support
Richards Bay Rotarians dish out joy to community-based organisations.
‘ROTARY will always be there with you in your struggle to make people’s lives better.’
With these words, President Leon Willemse on Monday evening handed over healthy cheques from the Richards Bay Rotary Club to five worthy community organisations.
The money was sourced at various fundraising projects during the past year.
Amangwe Village Manager, Erna Steynberg said on gratefully receiving R10 000, the money will be used to install a ‘grey water’ supply system for the organic garden.
‘Each day we feed 40 children at the crèche and our garden has been badly affected by the drought,’ said Erna.
The same amount was handed over to Lyn Addyman, representing the Golden Years Club which hosts weekly entertainment and devotional functions for seniors and also assists with doctor and shopping visits.
‘We will specifically earmark this money to help those elderly people who cannot afford all their medical or accommodation costs,’ said Lyn.
Louisa Erasmus of the SA Vroue Federasie, which has been in existence doing welfare work for 101 years, indicated the R15 000 received will meet many needs, including clothing and canned food, as well as medical and accommodation assistance.
Newly appointed LifeLine Zululand Director, Michelle Jewlal expressed appreciation for the R10 000 donated as well as previous amounts which enabled the organisation to maintain its counselling desk so as to maintain free services to the public.
Sea Rescue also benefitted to the tune of R10 000, in an ongoing relationship appreciated by NSRI Station 19 representative Gavin Fordham.
‘It takes a significant amount to keep the base operational in terms of vessel maintenance and fuel, so this donation is most welcome,’ said Gavin.
