Mtuba Sensei heads to Brazil
Sensei Sipho Madonsela from Mtubatuba will officiate in a World Kyokushin Karate Team Event in Brazil at the end of the month.
CELEBRATING 40 years of Kyokushin Karate in Brazil, Sao Paolo will host the World Kyokushin Team Event in July.
As this year also marks the 40th anniversary of Mtubatuba’s Sensei Sipho Madonsela in the sport, he is honoured to have been invited to officiate in the competition.
IKO South Africa will represent the South African team, whose members were chosen on merit, based on their previous local, provincial and national results.
Apart from Brazil, the South African teams will compete against such nations as Japan, USA, Russia, Canada, UK and Bulgaria.
Sempai Samukelo Mkhize, also from uMkhanyakude District, is the current undefeated under-15 South African Youth Champion and will compete in the youth category in Brazil.
Mkhize previously represented South Africa in the International Friendship Tournament, held in Japan in 2013, at which he was awarded fifth place. Upholding the district’s high karate standards, Madonsela was, at the African Selection Tournament in Cape Town, awarded for his outstanding contribution and dedication to IKO.
‘The karate I practice does not end here but it takes you places,’ is Madonsela’s motto. His being chosen to represent South Africa in Brazil is proof of this.
While the team looks forward to the upcoming competition, Madonsela’s expenses must be paid out of his own pocket, as his capacity as a tournament official is a voluntary one.
Any donations towards the trip’s expenses are welcome and, to this end, Madonsela can be contacted on 082 7018937.
