A PENSIONER was beaten during a house robbery in Wildenweide on Saturday when three suspects ransacked the property in Buffalo Bend and fled with electrical items, a laptop, jewellery and the family’s luxury vehicle.
According to Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira, the incident happened shortly after 7pm on Saturday night after the 69-year-old responded to a knock at the door.
‘The complainant was alone when the men came to the door looking for an unknown person, he told them there was so such person resident at the house.
‘They broke the security gate and sliding door and entered the house demanding to have the safe opened.
‘After ransacking the house they also took the keys to the white Mercedes Benz and fled,’ said Ferreira.
A family member confirmed they were away for the weekend and the complaint had been house-sitting.
‘The house was also burgled last August and now we always have someone stay at the property when we are away.
‘It was terrible that he was attacked during the robbery and then shoved under a dressing table.
‘When they took their eyes off him he managed to press the panic button and get help,’ she said.
Ferreira confirmed that the vehicle had not yet been recovered and dismissed allegations that the stolen vehicle was involved in other house robberies as circulated on social networking sites.
