Letter of the Week: Damned are those who cannot pay

What happened to free education?

I AM a parent who tried to enroll my child for high school for 2016.

I went to a well-known secondary school in Richards Bay and had all the paperwork they required but, as I do part-time work, I did not have the money.

I tried to explain to them that it was the middle of the month and couldn’t they just process the paperwork in the meantime.

They bluntly told me ‘no money, no registration’. The total they wanted was R2 500.

Who has such money available in the middle of the month? I tried to reason with them, requesting I pay it off, but they refused.

What happened to free education?

There are so many parents out there who truly cannot afford that kind of money, so does that mean there will be no education for their children?

We were treated like dirt. We walked there and returned home with no help. What has this country come to?
