THE MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has commended the Zululand Community Crime Fighting Association (ZCCFA) for the recovery of stolen cattle and the arrest of four suspects in two separate incidents.
In the first incident on Saturday, 23 May eight cows were reported missing in the Vryheid area.
After an extensive search for the cattle last weekend, members of the local ZCCFA spotted a suspicious vehicle.
The members tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped-off with the ZCCFA members in pursuit.
The vehicle was stopped and two cows were found belonging to a Mr Zulu.
The four suspects were arrested and handed over to the police.
On Thursday, 28 May ZCCFA members recovered seven cows belonging to the local induna.
They found the deserted cows and suspected that they were stolen and left by the thieves.
The cows were returned to the induna.
Mchunu has welcomed these operations saying it showed that members of the community have an important role to play in combating crime in the province.
