Zululand Shore Angling report
The venue will be at Mepalone over the weekend of the 20/21 June.
LOCAL anglers had high expectations when competing in the penultimate competition on the Zululand Shore Angling calendar last Sunday.
The competition was hosted by the St Lucia Angling Club who elected to fish from Mepalone Bay to 8km north towards 1st Rocks from 7am to 3pm.
The day rolled out to be very unproductive with only a few fish being caught, with the highlight of the day coming when master angler Dave Carr landed a magnificent 11.5kg Pompano on 0.36mm nylon.
The fish was measured and tagged by son Brad Carr before being released., which turned out to be a new Zululand record.
Johan Tiltmann landed the biggest inedible catch for the day, when landing a 17kg Honeycomb Ray.
Champion angler went to Dave Carr with a total of 32.3 weight points and the top club went to Umzingazi Angling Club.
The next and final completion will be the annual meet fished over two days.
