David Andries Chlole (49) was arrested after police, acting on information received, swooped on his Boerboon street premises on Wednesday night.
A search of the house discovered one .303 rifle, two shotguns, one .22 rifle, one 7.65 pistol, one .38 special and 258 live rounds of ammunition.
The case was postponed to 5 August to allow for ballistics testing of the weapons.
Bail of R1 000 was granted, unopposed by the state.
KZN Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police members for the arrest of the suspect and seizure of unlicensed firearms.
‘It is extremely concerning for the SAPS to find such a large quantity of firearms in the hands of one individual.
‘Our investigations will hopefully reveal how he came to be in possession of these firearms,’ she said.
