Shaping up for the big time

School pupils gear up to perform at Grahamstown Arts Festival.

FELIXTON College pupils are hard at work fine-tuning their theatrical production ‘The Zoo Story’ which they will perform at the Grahamstown Arts Festival in July.

The production deals with man’s inability to communicate.

Written by Edward Albee, a battle for supremacy takes place over a simple bench.

Pupils Luke Kleynhans, Ali Taqvi, Nicho Mathe and drama teacher Nicholas Wilcox form the cast in this brilliant production, with pupils Reneira Naidoo (Director), Robyn Swift (Stage Manager), Cassandra Mkhabela and Zamantungwa Khumalo (props and costumes) work behind the scenes.

After applying to perform at the festival earlier this year, the local crew were thrilled when they received the good news that they had been accepted and are now feeling the pressure.

‘It has been more difficult than we thought, but every week we reach little milestones that make the experience more real and exciting,’ said Wilcox.

The performance will be held over four days from 5 to 8 July at the B2 Arena.

The production will also go on stage at the school following the festival.
