Sister Sane steps up

CANSA appoints community mobiliser.

AFTER several years working in the Intensive Care Unit at Ngwelezana Hospital, Sister Sanelisiwe Mahlangu (37) has formally joined CANSA Zululand and is excited to start her new journey.

Affectionately known as ‘Sane’, the full of life and jovial nurse was officially appointed as Service Delivery Community Mobiliser at the beginning of this month.

Responsible for overall service delivery, Sane is expected to conduct testing, along with educational talks and presentations within the Zululand region to create awareness around the organisation and the disease.

Having graduated from Ngwelezane Nursing College in 2005 and caring for patients in ICU until late last year, Sane said the new opportunity is one she is enthusiastic about.

‘I have spent years nursing the critically ill. This is a fresh start for me to work with patients still in the early stages of illness – prevention, diagnosis, treatment and doing something to hopefully avoid patients reaching the critical stages.

‘I love people and love helping them,’ she says.

Born and raised in Mtubatuba, Sane is the eldest of eight siblings and now a wife and mother of one.

In her spare time she enjoys reading magazines or any Danielle Steel novel.

In a fire emergency she would grab her identity document, passport and daughter.
