CHRISTOPHER Panayiotou, husband of murdered Port Elizabeth teacher Jayde, has been charged with her kidnapping and murder.
Panayiotou was arrested last week and appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court where he was formally charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravated circumstances.
The charges come amid a media frenzy following the announcement of two arrests in the case from PE SAPS. Luthando Siyoli (31) was also arrested last week in connection with the killing. Police have announced further developments in the arrest of a third suspect.
‘A third suspect, a 30-year-old male was arrested yesterday in New Brighton Port Elizabeth and he will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s court today. This brings the total number of suspects arrested so far in the case, to three,’ said police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills in a statement.
‘The investigation team is working around the clock and more arrests are not excluded.’
Christopher Panayitou’s case was remanded to 19 June and he was detained in custody.
Jayde disappeared from outside her complex, Stellen Glen‚ in Deacon Road at around 6:30am on April 21. She was found shot dead the following day.
