THE case of a man accused of murdering his wife, prominent dance teacher Carolyn Lathwood Frara, in their Empangeni home two years ago, continues.
John Edward ‘Johnnie’ Frara made a brief appearance at the Empangeni Magistrate Court last week where the matter was remanded to 25 May due to outstanding psychiatric reports.
Attorney for the accused, Johan van der Westhuizen noted during proceedings earlier last year that a medical note detailing a recommendation by a local doctor stated that Frara seek medical attention from a specialised physician.
Frara subsequently underwent a 30-day observation period at Fort Napier Psychiatric Hospital in Pietermaritzburg and the court is still awaiting two of the three assessment reports.
It is alleged the couple were involved in an argument in the kitchen after Carolyn returned home from a dance practice.
She was attacked and suffered multiple stab wounds to her head and body.
In accordance with an agreement made with the defence, Frara’s bail was not opposed.
However, conditions included that he pay bail in the amount of R10 000, hand over his passport and report to the Empangeni Police Station every second week.
