NEWLY crowned Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie will be addressing youngsters at Mavuso High School on the outskirts of Hluhluwe tomorrow (Friday).
The beauty queen joins a top level delegation to Zululand as part of government’s National Imbizo Focus Week.
Proceedings will start at 9am when Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services, Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, launches a new computer laboratory at Mavuso High.
The launch will be the first part of a public participation programme which affords ministers, deputy ministers and government officials an opportunity to inform the public about government programmes, opportunities and to listen to their concerns.
Other key speakers include KZN MEC for Education Peggy Nkonyeni, Chief Mdluli from the KwaNibela Tribal Authority and a representative from the main sponsor, Sentech.
The launch of the computer laboratory, which has 22 brand new laptops, is part of the department’s ‘Schools Connectivity Programme’, which aims to ensure that Information Computer Technology (ICT) is used to enhance learning and teaching.
The laboratory will not only help pupils who have in the past struggled with school assignments and research owing to a lack of resources, but it will also help the largely rural community to gain ICT skills.
