Super start to fishing Bonanza

480 anglers took part in the Richards Bay Skiboat Club Fishing Bonanza.

DAY One of the Richards Bay Skiboat Club Fishing Bonanza saw great catches being brought to the weigh-in after a calm and fruitful day at sea.

With 127 boats and 480 anglers wetting their lines, there was bound to be stiff competition for the tremendous rewards on offer, including the big Z-Craft prizes of a Kingcat F16 boat for the best deepsea fish and a rubberduck for the top Bay catch.

From the outset, Riaan Bodenstein showed he would be hard to beat when he landed a 9.2kg snoek (Queen mackerel), weighing above the 9kg benchmark for that species.

The big yellowfin were noticeably absent on the first day but anglers were hoping to find them as the competition continued into Saturday and Sunday.

Ezemvelo District Officer, Kevin Green expressed his satisfaction over the good number and condition of the fish landed.
