Shooting for the stars
Cheri-Amor van Driel is the Lets Play Supersport Star of the month.
RICHARDS Bay High School’s Cheri-Amor van Driel (17) is a young woman blessed with many hidden talents.
The blonde beauty sings, plays guitar, is a straight A student and plays provincial netball (both indoor and outdoor).
She was a finalist in the Dolosfees singing competition earlier this month.
‘I have been singing since Grade R and love to sing soul music,’ she says.
She has been jamming on her guitar for three years after her friend Hein taught her how to play.
She furthers her skill by watching guitar lessons on Youtube.
On the academic front, Amor last year finished seventh in her grade, acing her seven subjects.
‘I would like to study chartered accountancy at Stellenbosch in 2017.’
Sport resumé
Amor starting playing netball at age nine and plays centre.
Her sport resumé includes:
• U9-U12 Most Improved Player award
• U13 school Player of the Year and Northern Transvaal North Player of the Year in her age group
• As U14 player she received AVS colours and was part of Northern Transvaal North side that won SA Championships, and in 2013 was selected for the Port Natal first team
• Made the KZN U16 action netball team, played for KZN at IPT tournament in Centurion, selected for the SA U18 trials and made the final round of selection,
• Last year was selected for the Richards Bay High School first netball team, as well as the Northern Coastal U16, KZN U16 and U17 KZN action netball teams, This included selection for the U17 A KZN netball team and IPT tournament, called to the SA trials in Cape Town and received the Sport Personality of the Year award at school.
• So far this year she was appointed vice captain of Richards Bay High School’s first team, and selected for the uThungulu District team to go to the Disney International Youth Tournament for action netball in October.
Driel also participates in athletics and has her school colours for netball and academics.
She aims at becoming a prefect, getting seven As and making the SA team for netball and action netball.
‘My motto is, give your best and God will do the rest,’ she says.
When not excelling in most things in her life, Driel takes the dogs to the beach, surfs and hangs out at the waterfront with friends to unwind.
Her advice is simple – never give up.
