WATCH Rhino rugby players crochet for charity

Rhinos crochet for 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

NOT to be outdone by some sissy Sharks, Zululand’s Rhinos rugger squad traded in their rugby boots for knitting needles to improve their hand-eye coordination and fine-tune motor skills by getting behind the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day project.

The players, coaching staff, girlfriends, fiances and wives will crochet and knit 60 squares for the cause, and have challenged Richards Bay Rugby Club to match or better their effort.

The Rhinos have signed up for the project to help make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged.

Zululand Ambassador for 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, Dee Bevan, was on hand to teach the new skills needed to the local rugby fraternity.

‘I would like to challenge all Zululand rugby clubs to become a part of this awesome movement that is sweeping across our country,’ said Bevan.

The aim is to rally the nation to knit or crochet and donate 21 000 blankets, which would be a world record.

These blankets will be spread across the vast lawns at the Union Buildings at the feet of the Mandela statue.
