THE Rhinos’ unbeaten run continued when they beat Newcastle 21-16 at Mick Kelly Park in their second warm-up rugby game ahead of the new season.
This victory was a psychological one for the Rhinos outfit, who drew 5-5 to the same side a few months ago in a crucial promotion/relegation match.
Despite the victory at home in front of a jam-packed crowd, a huge matter of concern was the lack in ability of finishing off.
The home side got off to a dismal start, handing Newcastle a 16-3 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game.
The three points came from the boot of Jors Dannhauser.
Rhinos then woke up and decided to play some rugby, resulting in a good try from scrumhalf Michael Neysschens, which Dannhauser converted to take the score to 16-10.
The Rhinos played well in patches, but need to focus on their defensive lines and first-time tackles.
The second half saw the home side dominate possession, which resulted in a try by fullback Corné Els, taking the score to 16-15.
Dannhauser sealed the deal by adding two penalties.
The local squad will work hard at practices over the next two weeks before they take on College Rovers on Friday, 17 April at Mick Kelly Park in their opening Premier League match.
