WHAT could have been the second attempted armed robbery in a week at iSimangaliso Wetland Park’s Sodwana Bay Camp Site was foiled when security guards and conservation officers intercepted two intruders.
The incident occurred at about 10.30pm on Thursday.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) conservation officers and security guards were alerted to the presence of two would-be intruders on the camp site perimeter.
According to EKZNW Spokesperson Musa Mntambo, ‘When the intruders realised they were cornered they started shooting at our staff who then fired warning shots, which led to the intruders running for their lives’.
One intruder fell and was apprehended by security guards and later arrested by police officers.
A case of attempted murder has been opened against him.
According to local reports, the suspect is wanted in connection with another shooting incident, possibly the shooting incident last weekend during which a camper was shot in the leg, but SAPS KZN Media Centre is yet to confirm this.
