ALTHOUGH her purpose-driven life is shaped by her everyday interactions, this feisty young lady believes that only one person determines your worth – yourself.
Currently in matric at Hoërskool Richardsbaai, Jenni-Lee Hoorzuk is a great example of what self-assurance coupled with humility can produce.
Selected to represent her school at the World Rhino Summit late last year, stands out as one of her momentous achievements.
She, together with conservation leaders aged between 15 and 17 years from South Africa and abroad worked together in addressing the rhino poaching crisis.
More recently, Jenni-Lee traveled to Germany as an exchange student, which she considers to be the ultimate learning experience.
Apart from being a member of the school’s netball team, she also has a keen interest in athletics, and has become quite the go-to person among her fellow students.
Asked about how she balances her days, she says, ‘There is never enough time. I am always on-the-go and love the excitement that follows from making a difference and achieving my goals.’
Her passion for people has led to her joining the school’s outreach programme.
She regards one of her pre-primary school teachers as having had a significant influence on her life.
‘Mrs Jarman instilled a love of learning within me. Her passion and dedication as an educator was the foundation of my schooling life. A teacher is your scholastic angel,’ she says.
Economics is the subject she enjoys the most owing to its content being so varied.
She advises the youth to stop trying so hard at hurrying the growing up process and instead remember that success is a journey, not a destination.
‘It’s my desire to be an educator one day. I have a great affinity for children and know that it’s my purpose in life to be a giver of knowledge to the future generation,’ she says.
