Primary school corruption investigated
'I still stand by the policy of zero corruption in the public sector' - District Department of Education Director David Chonco.

THE KZN Department of Education has to indicate where it stands with regard to rooting corruption at the Ensingweni Primary School.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a teacher at the school claims to have reported corrupt activities of two senior officials to Circuit Inspector Mthoko Mthembu, the uThungulu District Director David Chonco and the Provincial HOD, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi, but no action was taken by the Department to institute an investigation.
Among the allegations are the pilfering of food meant for pupils, class desks and chairs being removed to be used as household furniture and the use of the school’s grass cutting machine for commercial purposes.
The source said the school is in a bad state of repair, yet no maintenance is done, and although a finance committee exists, there is no accountability of wild spending.
uThungulu District Department of Education Director David Chonco acknowledged receipt of these complaints.
‘The matter was immediately referred to the head office’s labour relations department for due administrative processes and investigations to follow, which have been undertaken and given priority status,’ Chonco said.
‘I view all allegations as serious and will ensure that the matter are referred to the appropriate departments for proper legal processes. I still stand by the policy of zero corruption in the public sector.’
