A 13-YEAR-OLD boy accidentally shot himself with his father’s firearm on Monday afternoon near KwaMsane, but survived.
The incident occurred at about 4.30pm in Nkolokotho Reserve.
The boy’s grandmother, who was at a neighbouring house, heard a gunshot, but before she could find out what had happened the boy ran into the house, his body soaked with blood.
He told his grandmother he had accidentally shot himself.
According to KwaMsane SAPS Media Officer, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, the father admitte having hidden his 9mm pistol under his pillow and the firearm was found by his son.
The boy was taken to KwaMsane Clinic and later transferred to Ngwelezana Hospital for further treatment.
KwaMsane SAPS has opened a case of ‘failing to safeguard a firearm’.
