I’M writing this letter in response to the recent articles on drugs that were published in the Zululand Observer.
I am a student at a local tertiary institution and it is common knowledge among students that many of our peers are abusing drugs instead of focusing on their studies. We can all see that those students are not coping well, as many of them fail their exams and have to eventually drop out.
This in turn leads to a low pass rate at the institute.
It is so sad to see these young people throwing their lives away like this.
In my opinion, two causes of drug abuse are a lack of communication and a lack of discipline at home.
Some parents claim to be too tired or too busy to spend quality time with their children, and in some homes drug abuse is the norm with which these young people grow up.
We all know that education is the key to success.
Therefore I want to urge my fellow students to make smart choices and to take their
education seriously.
That way, they can become someone that they can be proud of.
