A young lady of many talents

Meet the February Supersport Let's Play star of the month.

TALENTED all-rounder Danielle René van Onselen is the February Supersport Let’s Play star of the month.

The 15-year-old, Grade 10 Grantleigh pupil is not only an A student who has academic colours, but also has provincial colours in cricket and hockey.

Danni proves that there’s brains and sporting talent behind the beauty.

Danielle has a love for sport that burns inside her, and therefore when not in the classroom, can be found out on the sports field participating in swimming, competitive walking, hockey, cricket and soccer.

But it is her sporting resume that overflows with achievements, which include – Northern Coastal U14 and U16 hockey (2013/2014), U16 KZN Country Districts hockey (2014), club hockey for the Vets side (2014/15), KZN U13 cricket (2012) and KZN U19 cricket squad (2014).

But she has not achieved all this through play.

Danni studies diligently for hours, whilst juggling extra training to improve her sporting talent.

She came in the top ten in her grade last year, getting an overall academic average above 80%.

She trains extra hockey twice a week and participates in local races ranging from 5km to 21km to keep fit.

But when life gets a little too much to juggle, she smashes hockey balls against a wall or goes for a run to re-focus.

Danni enjoys reading and scrap-booking when she finds spare time in her hectic day-to-day schedule.

‘I follow a simple motto in life which is – Life begins when you walk out of the grandstand and into the game.’

‘My advice to other teens is simple, it is you need to work hard to succeed.’
