Student drives ‘techpreneurs’ concept

The summit is expected to be held early next month, with the main purpose being to curb the unemployment rate among qualified tertiary students.

ONE of Umfolozi College’s Entrepreneur Society members, Mpendulo Mbulawa, is planning an industrial entrepreneur indaba, which is provisionally scheduled to be held at the Richtek auditorium.

The summit is expected to be held early next month, with the main purpose being to curb the unemployment rate among qualified tertiary students.

Already having Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) on board, Mbulawa is hoping to gain the backing from some of Zululand’s big businesses.

‘Recently there have been retrenchments in many of the big industries. The summit will aim to promote entrepreneurial skills and also to get buy-in from corporate social investment departments,’ Mbulawa said.

He is a final year mechanical engineering student and believes that sustainability can be achieved through empowering his fellow students with the required business knowledge.

His vested interest in this plan was brought about after noticing the rising numbers of qualified students who sit at home, unable to find a job.

Umfolozi College’s Rector Sam Zungu has agreed to support the project.

A competent Board of Directors will be elected to lead the initiative.
