THE negligence of parents often causes accidents on our roads. Parents should not teach their children to drive if they do not have a valid learner’s licence.

According to South African law, no one should drive a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence. If you have a learner’s licence, you should be accompanied with someone who has a driver’s licence.

In last week’s Eyethu Bay Watch Phindile Mlambo (12) was killed in a hit-and-run and Dumoluhle Mlambo was seriously injured. This incident took place in the Machibini area at KwaMsane when an unlicensed driver lost control of the car and hit the two boys.

Thembinkosi Sibiya (18) fled the scene and was later brought in by his parents to the KwaMsane police station.

According to the SAPS spokesperson, Theminkosi was given the car by his father. Thembinkosi appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with culpable homicide.

This will ruin his life. He will have difficulties finding a job with a criminal record. Parents should not allow their children access to vehicles without the relevant licence, as this ruins a child’s life at an early age.
