I MUST commend the workers contracted to keep the public parks in Empangeni in a good condition – and it seems that the poles put around certain of the parks is having the desired outcome.
But I pass one park in particular on my daily commute that leaves a lot to be desired – on the corner of Apollo and President Swart Sstreets.
Although the grass is cut regularly and the trees and bushes are trimmed once or twice annually, there is a pile of old branches that has never been removed.
They have been lying there for about two years – in fact I think it’s from when the previous contractors were operational.
The grass surrounding the pile is mowed religiously, but the pile is just left, with grass almost waist high growing through the dead branches.
With the rest of the park kept in good shape, why is this pile just left there?
Why not pick it all up when the grass and other trimmed branches are removed?
Please could the uMhlathuze Municipality take note of this and make sure that the next time the contractors move in to mow the grass and cut back branches, this pile of dead wood is also removed together with the other refuse.
