I AM writing to express my strong dissatisfaction at the disgraceful treatment I received at the Empangeni municipal offices.

I was deeply offended by the behaviour of the frontline assistant.

The lady who assisted me identified herself as Sdu and was extremely disrespectful and unhelpful.

When I had walked into the office, she was chatting and laughing with a colleague and never acknowledged my presence until another staff member told her to assist me, which she did reluctantly.

I told her I was looking for a proof of residence letter and that I was referred from another council office to the municipality.

I was then asked, ‘Who is your councillor, why don’t you know your councillor? Do you vote, why don’t you vote? If you did vote, you would know your councillor – that is the reason you will not get any help.’

She then continued to ask me rudely, ‘Will you vote next year?’ still without assisting me or even directing me to the correct person or department.

I do not believe an individual should question or even ask another person if they vote and who they vote for, that is confidential.

I look forward to a response from the municipality to this letter. I am hoping that their professionalism is closer to what I expect, than the actual response I received from their employee.
