Parliament probes local mine rehabilitation

RBM’s senior leadership team, led by Managing Director Mpho Mothoa, accompanied the group on a tour of all its mineral sands mining operations and rehabilitated zones.

RICHARDS Bay Minerals (RBM) welcomed the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources yesterday (Wednesday) to show the parliament members its successful rehabilitation practices.

RBM’s senior leadership team, led by Managing Director Mpho Mothoa, accompanied the group on a tour of all its mineral sands mining operations and rehabilitated zones.

‘We were really pleased to host this delegation,’ said Mothoa.

‘The committee was referred to us by the Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources to come and learn or see how RBM does rehabilitation in preparation for mine closure.’

Among members were Committee Chairperson Sahlulele Luzipo and Mandla Mandela (Nelson Mandela’s grandson).

The visit followed a round table discussion with KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu on Sunday, where members asked about RBM’s rehab practices.
