Shocking revelation at principal’s memorial service

Speculations over Mkhwanazi's death intensifies.

THE mystery around the tragic death of former Ikhandlela Secondary School deputy principal Douglas Msizeni (DM) Mkhwanazi (40) has taken a surprising twist.

During his memorial service at eNkanyisweni Lutheran Church in eSikhaleni on Thursday, on the podium, Mtunzini Education Circuit manager Mthoko Mthembu, revealed his last conversation with the late educator.

He told the education fraternity that a week before his death, Mkhwanazi had visited his home, pleaded with him to reverse his promotion to be a principal at eMjabuliseni High School.

‘He told me he didn’t want to move to his new school. I promised to sort everything out, and told him not to report to either of the two schools,’ said Mthembu.

Mkhwanazi died last Sunday, a day before he was supposed to start his new job as principal at eMjabuliseni.

His burnt body was found inside his car between KwaDlangezwa crossroads and N2 highway at 4.30am.

Remembered

Hundreds gathered in eSikhaleni on Thursday, to remember his life in a memorial service.

Ikhandlela School choir sang in perfect sweet harmony, and shared their favourite stories of the fallen hero.

SADTU Mtunzini branch chairperson, Gcina Mjadu, described him as a true hero and leader.

‘He was a leader that whipped the organisation. He played a major role in the great performance of the school, because he loved education and his pupils,’ said Mjadu.

Ikhandlela School principal Nombuso Mngadi said he contributed towards the improvement of the school.

‘He played a major role to ensure we had Grade 12 last year. He loved his pupils and went beyond the call of duty in everything. His economics class passed with 96% last year because he was so dedicated to them. He was my strength,’ said the tearful Mngadi.

Mkhwanazi was also remembered for his role as a ANC chairperson in KwaDlangezwa branch.

He was laid to rest on Sunday, after a long services attended by thousands of education and political leaders, teachers, chiefs and municipal leaders.
