WATER is propagated as a scarce commodity in South Africa. Empangeni itself is very dry at the moment.
Yet, I drive past a water tanker filling area every day and am amazed at the disregard for water management.
At the bottom of Hillview, up to 10 tankers are filling up with water (Aqua Transport) every day.
It is appalling how much water is wasted when the trucks’ water hatches are not closed or they are defective.
The water trail can be seen for more than a kilometre as these tankers drive away, spilling water as they go along.
The area where they fill up is a muddy mess each and every day.
I just think that this filling operation should be managed better and a stop put to the water wastage.
The tar road has been repaired on more than one occasion owing to the damage caused by the wastage of water in this area.
