A MANHUNT is underway for two suspects in the murder of a Bangladeshi national who was murdered on Saturday evening at his house in Makanyane area near Jozini.
Twenty-two-year-old Sohel Rana was shot once, at close range in the neck and died on scene. The murder occurred at about 7.30pm on Saturday.
No arrests have, as yet, been made but police officers are following strong leads. There were no witnesses to the murder but the person who reported it to the police heard a gunshot at Rana’s rented cottage and saw two men fleeing the scene.
While nothing was stolen, a case of armed robbery has been opened, in conjunction with the murder case, as Rana had been managing a tuck shop in the area.
Jozini SAPS Communications Officer, Warrant Officer Zwelinjani Madlotha, said the shop is prone to burglaries and they suspect the murderers had previously tried to rob the shop but that Rana had prevented them from doing so.
Rana is part of a large Bangladeshi community living in Jozini who run most of the businesses in the area.
Family members have been informed.
