A QUIET family evening ended in tragedy for a young 19-year-old girl of the KwaMsane area in Mtubatuba, when she was brutally murdered in her house on Saturday.
On the threshold of adulthood, the life of Nokwazi Ntombela was snuffed out when her mother’s young boyfriend allegedly shot the teen in the kitchen of their family home.
Her frail mother watched helplessly as the man she loved turned her nightmares into reality.
It is alleged that an argument developed between the boyfriend and daughter, over the mother’s bank card.
According to the police, at 7pm the young man jumped the house fence, forced open the front door and threatened the teen and other children with a gun. He then fired and allegedly shot her in the lower and upper body, killing her instantly.
Police also confirmed that the mother was already in possession of a protection order against the boyfriend before the incident. This had been issued as he was apparently abusive to her children.
Neighbours close to the family told the Zululand Observer the young man had attempted to knock the teen over with his car on Christmas Day.
‘Her future looked bright since she was already studying at a tertiary institution,’ they said.
He was arrested and charged with murder and will appear in court in due course.
Mtubatuba police spokesperson Lt Mandla Mpontshana confirmed the incident, and said a full investigation is underway.
