HIS car was riddled with 23 bullets but the KwaDukuza imam survived the attempt on his life.
Haniff Pandor, 50, a leader in the Stanger Jamia Musjid, was a victim of a drive-by shooting yesterday.
Pandor had taken his brother-in-law, Farouk Randera to see a mechanic at a petrol station in Dawnside, Durban when tragedy struck.
The mechanic’s workshop was closed, so Randera drove through the garage forecourt to make a U-turn to return home.
However, the men were approached by a bakkie with four occupants on the back. One of the men opened fire on Randera and Pandor.
Most of the bullets hit below the door on the passenger side and went through the seats.
The men were both hit during the shooting.
Randera, a father of four, was shot twice in the leg, one going clean through.
Pandor, a father of three, was admitted to hospital after a bullet went through the hip area and lodged near his stomach.
A police source said a taxi boss had been killed at the same garage last week in what was believed to be a taxi-related shooting.
They are investigating the possibility that the incidents were linked.
