From a Puma to a Rhino

Puma player to boost Rhinos 2015 cause.

PUMAS Laeveld backline player Nico Prinsloo has joined the Rhinos rugby squad for the 2015 season, firmly committed to make a positive impact.

The talented 21-year-old wing/outside centre impressed at the first pre-season training session last Tuesday evening at Mick Kelly Park.

His rugby résumé is impressive, and his experience and skill will hopefully help boost the Rhinos’ fortunes this season.

He represented Malalane Rugby Club’s first team between 2009 and 2011, Pumas Laeveld U21 (2011-2012), Pumas Laeveld senior team (2013-2014) and the Pumas Sevens side last year.

He tips the scale at 90kg and stands 1.86m tall.

He trains three times a week with the club, twice a week on his own and hits the gym five times a week.

‘I decided to come to Empangeni and join the Rhinos to gain experience, better my game and hopefully open up opportunities to better myself as a rugby player.

‘Riaan Pienaar coached me at Malalane and at the Pumas, so I am excited to be playing under him again,’ says Nico.

He aims to earn a place in the Sharks XV or Sharks Sevens side this season.

He enjoys fishing, bike riding and hanging out with friends in his spare time.

The Nelspruit flyer’s motto is ‘do not fear what you do, do what you fear’.

‘My favourite field that I have played on is Newlands in Cape Town.

‘My advice to young players is simple – be fit, practice makes perfect and no pain, no gain.’

This youngster is just one of several players hoping to make an impact this season and aid the Rhinos’ cause.
