Big donation for isiZulu Bible translation

The Jacob Zuma Foundation has donated R500 000 towards improving the existing translation of the Bible in isiZulu

THE Jacob Zuma Foundation has donated R500 000 towards improving the existing translation of the Bible in isiZulu.

The foundation’s patron, President Jacob Zuma, handed over the donation to the Roman Catholic Church during a prayer service at St Joseph Cathedral in Mariannhill on Sunday.

‘As isiZulu speaker, President Zuma has long felt that the existing isiZulu translation of the Scriptures is inadequate. A new version will now be translated dierectly from Biblical languages such as Hebrew and Arabic.

‘This new version will be more accurate and closer to the original manuscripts. The only latest version translated by the Bible Society was done in 1959, and leans on other languages rather than isiZulu,’ said a foundation statement.
