Shine welcomes community health agents
The fresh platoon will fight the spread of HIV in the area.
THE NGO, SHINE (Shintsha Health Initiative), welcomed new community health agents.
These initiates join the SHINE troops in fighting the spread of HIV in the area.
The fresh platoon seemed eager to get into the field as the war against the disease continues.
Celiwe Majola of SHINE thanked the newcomers for having the guts to join SHINE and said they were already winning the war against the virus as the misconceptions about the disease were fading.
Sithandwa Buthelezi and Nkosinathi Mpungose urged good behaviour and secrecy regarding people’s HIV statuses.
Nhlanhla Sibiya broke the numbers down for the initiates as he showed the current numbers of the infected and the numbers of the people that tested in eShowe.
From January to November 2014, 15 954 homes were visited and 17 731 people were tested.
Of these, 17 091 tested negative while 567 were positive.
The areas with the highest number of HIV positive cases are King DinuZulu, Ntumeni and Mhlathuzana.
Tuberculosis was highest in Mpumazi, King DinuZulu and Mbongolwane.
