Bay Hall beach mess

Litter was strewn across the grass and on the beach.

WHILE the main Richards Bay beaches saw far fewer crowd numbers than in years past, other recreational areas such as the Bay Hall and Naval Island attracted more people than before.

With high temperatures prevailing throughout the past week, the only incident of major concern was the drowning of a young boy at the Bay Hall, after lifeguards had gone off duty on New Year’s Day.

However, the entire recreational area was littered with bottles, broken glass and plastic bags left in the wake of the crowd.

Municipal cleaners worked hard to restore the area each day, but residents claimed there were far too few refuse bins and skips to cope with the amount of litter generated.
