INFORMATION from community members led police to a speedy drug bust in eSikhaleni.
Bags of dagga were recovered by the Crime Prevention team at uMkhobose Reserve, and ready made whoonga was seized at the H1 section opposite the township’s mall.
Two young men were arrested and charged with being in possession of illegal substances in two separate incidents.
It was reported that others involved fled the scene.
According to Capt Dumsani Mhlongo the community played a major role.
‘The community alerted us about these criminal activities in the area. We acted quickly and recovered the illegal substances.
‘We will continue to make sure we remove all drugs from the streets,’ Capt Mhlongo said.
‘During the festive season we started the ‘stop and search’ campaign, where we looked for drugs and illegal weapons. We will continue doing so this year and will monitor all the hot spots and make sure we bring the criminals to justice,
‘The good relationship between police and the community is very important. If we work together, we can ensure a drug free society.’
