Electricity demand remains low
According to Eskom the power system is expected to remain constrained but stable this week.

RESIDENTS can expect minimal risks of power outages over the rest of the festive season owing to many industries being closed for the holidays.
According to Eskom the power system is expected to remain constrained but stable this week and for the rest of the festive season.
‘The risk of load shedding is low during this period. The demand in electricity generally tends to decrease on Fridays, going into the weekend as well as on public holidays,’ Eskom said.
During this time, the power utility will work at reducing the backlog on its plant maintenance programme and continue to build its new power stations.
uMhlathuze Municipality’s Chief Technical Officer for Customer Services, Ardrie Smith, said there was no planned maintenance for any of the region’s substations for the remainder of the festive season, as most service providers are away on leave.
‘uMhlathuze’s load shedding in the new year will only occur according to Eskom’s demand and schedules. We cannot provide any updates until we know their (Eskom’s) plan,’ Smith said,
Although the risks of power cuts are minimal, Eskom said the system remains vulnerable, therefore residents are urged to continue using electricity sparingly.
Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger stated that the electricity demand will step up in the week when schools open, as this is when economic activity returns to normal levels.
