FOR grandmother Fikile Mbuyazi of KwaKhoza Reserve and the twin girls she cares for, Christmas came early when Santa arrived with a gift they could only dream of – a house.
Gogo Mbuyazi became the custodian of the two little girls when their mother, Maboni Samkelisiwe Mthethwa, died during childbirth in 2012.
After struggling for two years to find a place where she could build the twins a proper home, Mbuyazi finally found a patch of land at KwaKhoza Reserve just outside eNseleni.
But there was still no proper house to provide them with shelter.
Enter the Zululand Observer’s charity organisation, Do I Care Enough? (DICE).
On hearing about the gogo’s dire situation, DICE decided to come to her rescue by funding a house and approached RH Construction in Richards Bay for a quotation and soon a 24 square metre fully galvanised home was completed in two days.
Thursday was the day of great jubilation when DICE founder and Zululand Observer MD Regina Anthony, assisted by DICE coordinator Linda Zeelie, handed over the house keys to an equally excited Mbuyazi.
‘This is a dream come true. I still can’t believe that I will now finally have a peaceful sleep at night, knowing that the twins and I are safe and secure from the rainfall, windstorms and criminals,’ she said.
