FOUR people were killed in a head-on collision on the N2 just outside Mtubatuba on Saturday.
Just before 9pm, an Isuzu bakkie travelling from Durban to Mozambique, laden with people and goods, collided with a Nissan 200 bakkie near Shikishela.
While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, Mtubatuba SAPS suspects the Isuzu bakkie was overloaded and the driver lost control.
One passenger in the back of the Isuzu was killed instantly, while a second passenger in the same vehicle died in the ambulance. Two passengers in the Nissan 200 were killed instantly.
A further eight passengers were injured, but both drivers survived.
All injured patients were treated by KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedics and transported to Ngwelezana Hospital.
Mtubatuba SAPS has opened a case of culpable homicide.
