A CONSTABLE at the Melmoth Police Station, Nzelo Mbatha, was shot and killed by colleagues after he threatened to kill them this morning.
The Melmoth SAPS were called to investigate a shooting incident in which Mbatha was implicated early this morning.
According to police, Mbatha went to his girlfriend’s house at 2am armed with his service pistol.
There he shot a three-year-old boy in the head and wounded two girls aged 13 and 14 years, before fleeing the scene.
He returned to the scene at around 5am and threatened the officers during their investigations.
He was fatally wounded in the head and leg after the officers opened fire.
The motive for the shooting of the children is unknown.
It is also not yet clear if his girlfriend was at home at the time of the shooting.
