IT is with shock and disgust that we witness the shocking road accidents that we are subjected to every festive season.

Taking my regular jogging in the early hours of the morning on the road connecting our city with the N2 towards eNseleni, I just think our drivers – both public and private transport – try by all means to add statistics to road accidents.

I have witnessed drivers overtaking right at the robots, even buses full of passengers, and wonder whether we are trying to outdo other places for having as many road related deaths as possible.

I understand that during these times there are no traffic officials on the streets, but being responsible doesn’t need policemen to look after your life, it’s every driver’s own responsibility.

We have had many deaths of late on our roads and we don’t need more.

Please people, let’s obey rules. It is the right thing to do.
