Huge boost to empower village

Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) hands over R490 000 to Amangwe Village.

PARTNERING with Amangwe Village for over five years, one of Zululand’s leading corporates, Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT), handed over a R490 000 cheque to the community as part of its annual donation to assist in self-sustainability.

Amangwe Village Manager Erna Steynberg was overjoyed by the terminal’s generosity.

‘It is funding like this which assists us to continue adding value to the lives of people and bring about change and hope to people in rural communities.

‘Amangwe can only continue with its core function of strengthening communities if companies such as RBCT financially support the endeavours of the village to bring about change,’ Steynberg said.

The village, championed by the Zululand Chamber of Business Foundation, strives to provide proper home-based care for those infected and affected by HIV/Aids, and has an on-site crèche which develops orphans and vulnerable children within the community.

RBCT’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Gcina Nhleko said, ‘The association with Amangwe Crèche is such that even though we are a country faced with many scourges, more especially the prevalence of child-headed households, at least through the education system we can formulate positive behavioural patterns in children.

‘Early childhood development is critical, in that later stages of life reflect the quality of the upbringing,’ she added.
