AS a Zululander studying in Pretoria, I find coming home excruciatingly bland.
There are virtually no recreational activities in the area to keep not only our youth, but our tourists entertained.
I have committed myself to the role of couch potato for more than a month, because cutting the entire neighbourhood’s grass wasn’t even an option.
This community needs to revive its tourist and recreational activities. There used to be a bowling alley at the Small Craft Harbour and super tubes and putt-putt at Alkantstrand.
Now there is only the skate park and people like me, who have no sense of balance, can only but look at the other kids play.
When my family visits we drive to Ballito or Durban to keep ourselves busy. It’s a real shame really, since we have what everyone is looking for – the perfect location.
Sadly, we lack substance. Though many would argue that we have movies and the beach, I argue – been there, done that.
Not to mention the fact that I can swim in my pool at home and can watch movies on my laptop before they even come out at the cinema.
Local businessmen need to take the initiative to bring back life to Zululand and make it a hot spot for anyone and everyone to have fun.
