Green mamba slithers onto shop shelf

A slithery surprise awaited customers at a arts and crafts shop at a Mtunzini restaurant.

GOING to your local shop to rummage through the shelves to find that something special, the last thing one would expect to come face-to-face with is a green mamba chilling out among the arts and craft items.

But that is exactly what happened at the Hearty Meal Restaurant in Mtunzini on Thursday evening.

After receiving a rather frantic phone call, snake catcher Wayne ‘Beastman’ Rawlinson rushed to the shop to save the day.

‘The snake was on a shelf among a number of ornaments. It took about 15 minutes to locate and capture him.

The green mamba’s venom is one-tenth as toxic as that of a black mamba and the amount injected is generally less owing to the smaller size.

‘Although, trust me, the last thing you want is to be bitten by one of these guys. If you do happen to get bitten, get to Ngwelezana Hospital as quickly as you can,’ said Rawlinson

The snakes Rawlinson catches are released in a safe environment.
