SERIAL rapist Sihle ‘Wonderboy’ Nyango was sentenced to life plus 74 years in prison in the Mtubatuba High Court yesterday.
The 25-year-old Mtubatuba man faced five counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping, theft and escaping from prison.
He was convicted on all counts.
One rape count led to Nyango’s life sentence while the other charges amounted to a further 74 years and six months imprisonment.
Nyango, after raping five women in Mtubatuba and KwaMsane in 2010, was recognised by one of his victims while in Mtubatuba town.
She recognised her attacker by the marks on his hands and reported his whereabouts to police officers who made the arrest.
In 2012, while in prison awaiting trial in Empangeni, Nyango escaped and fled to Limpopo where he was re-arrested and sent back to prison.
Maintaining his innocence to the end, Nyango will serve his sentences at Qalakabusha Prison in Empangeni.
Lieutenant Mpontshane, Communications Officer for Mtubatuba SAPS, said the arresting officers are very happy with the sentencing because people like Nyango shouldn’t be out on the streets.
