Ten killed in Mbazwane collision
The 10, including a seven-year-old child, were in a bakkie when the crash occurred on the R22.

A HEAD-ON collision between a bakkie and a truck near Mbazwane last night claimed the lives of ten people, all of whom are thought to be related.
It was reported that the occupants of the bakkie were rushing a family member to hospital when the driver overtook another vehicle on double barrier lines, smashing head-on into a truck. The accident occurred at about 7.30pm yesterday on the R22 between Mbazwane and Mseleni.
The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, has today sent a delegation led by the Head of Department (HOD) of Transport, Sibusiso Gumbi, as well as senior officials and law enforcement agencies to visit the accident site. The team will assess the accident scene and immediately begin investigations into the circumstances leading to the accident. Assistance required by the families of the deceased will also be determined.
‘The team will investigate the road conditions, the weather during the time of the accident and the state of both drivers who were involved in the accident,’ said Mchunu. ‘To lose so many people in one accident is totally unacceptable. What makes it even more unbearable is the fact that all those who were killed were related and the accident was avoidable by simply exercising patience and respecting the road traffic rules’.
Mchunu went on to remind motorists that road safety is our collective responsibility.
