Counterfeit accused off the hook

TWO Manguzi women were arrested on Tuesday along the N2 near KwaMsane for the possession of suspected counterfeit goods valued at R50 000.

The KwaMsane Crime Prevention Unit members on duty conducted a roadblock on the highway, during which 12 bags containing running shoes, branded with various popular labels, were discovered in two taxis.

The women appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The case was subsequently withdrawn by the Public Prosecutor owing to insufficient evidence that the goods were imitations.
