Meet the winners of the Business Excellence Awards
Chamber honours Zululand's top performing businesses in Richards Bay.
THIS year’s Business Excellence Awards event was an evening packed with comedy, laughter and team spirit for local industry leaders, businesses and non-profit organisations who gathered for well-deserved pats on the back.
The Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) hosted the swanky function in Richards Bay on Saturday night to hand out 13 awards among the 35 finalists judged for their performance and services this past year.
City of uMhlathuze Mayor Elphas Mbatha and his wife Momusa also attended the event to honour the winners.
Event Programme Director Alec Bozas took guests back to the beginning of the annual occasion.
‘The ZCCI has a long history of acknowledging the exceptional calibre of businessmen and -women in the area,’ said Bozas.
‘The first Business Person of the Year award was made in 1988.’
Bozas said since then, the Chamber extended categories to recognize service excellence in communities, inspiring business personalities and effective corporate social responsibilities among others.
‘The chamber now acknowledges individuals, businesses and organisations for their contribution to the community at large.
‘Furthermore, the business competition has been expanded to differentiate between emerging, small, medium and corporate business. It added categories such as the Tourism Business of the Year, Logistics Business of the Year, the Safety Awareness Award and the SABCOHA (South African Business Coalition on HIV/Aids) Wellness Award which has encouraged greater participation across the spectrum,’ Bozas said.

Employer of the Year Award – Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT)
SABCOHA Wellness Award – RBCT and Tronox KZN Sands
Safety Awareness Award – Tronox KZN Sands
Corporate Social Responsibility Award – RBCT
Emerging Business Excellence Award – Info Avenue
Small Business Excellence Award – Encore Maintenance
Medium Business Excellence Award – Inkhanyezi Dry Cleaners
Corporate Business Excellence Award – Mhlathuze Water
Tourism Business of the Year – Umfolozi Hotel Casino & Convention Centre
Premium Award of the Year – Mhlathuze Water
